#2 What Your Buyer Persona Is Missing

Why technical B2B companies keep losing deals, and why the product is rarely the reason.

I have the same conversation at almost every trade fair, conference, and networking event I attend. A CEO or sales lead of a technical B2B company tells me their product is strong, their team is experienced, and their pipeline looks decent. And then they say: "But somehow we keep losing deals we should be winning."

I ask them to describe their ideal buyer. They can. Job title, company size, industry, region. The functional profile is there. Then I ask what keeps that buyer up at night. What needs to happen inside their organization before they can even consider a purchase. What story they tell themselves about the problem their product solves. That is where it gets quiet.

Most B2B companies have a buyer persona. What they are missing is the emotional layer, the customer pain points that actually drive decisions, the internal pressure that creates urgency, the fear of getting it wrong that makes a buyer hesitate even when the product is exactly what they need.

Without that layer, the messaging defaults to features. The sales team explains what the product does instead of what the buyer wins. And the decision maker on the other side of the table understands the product but cannot justify the purchase to their board.

That is not a sales problem. It is a persona problem.

When you build the full picture (market segment, strategic positioning, and a buyer persona that captures both the functional and the emotional reality) the story writes itself.

The right message reaches the right person at the right moment.

That is what we build at Pink Frog.
